In almost all (Catholic) households you will find a crib representation somewhere in the apartment on Christmas days. The artistic quality and diversity.
Popular in the 60s and 70s were bronze plaques and particularly popular were the bronze plaques of the sculptor Joseph Krautwald from Rheine (1914-2003).
The native Silesian worked mainly in sandstone and bronze. His artistic roots were German Expressionism as well as the monumental sculptures of his teacher Josef Thorak. He designed numerous church furnishings, but also picture blocks and crosses as well as monumental crosses for cemeteries, warriors' honors and church squares. His small bronzes were very popular as gifts for baptisms, communion celebrations and wedding ceremonies.
The bronze relief from the collection of the Emsland Museum shows the Holy Family, whether still in the stable of Bethlehem or already on the run remains unclear. The bronze characterized the intimate closeness of mother and child, whereby the mother surrounds the child protectively by her bent posture. In addition, there is Saint Joseph, who surrounds mother and child with his robe like a protective mantle. Its strong walking stick gives the small group of figures contour and dynamics.
This relief is in very good vintage condition exactly as pictured. Please view all photos for details.
